Not Just Theaters, Even The OTT Performances Of These 7 Movies Proved Not Hype-Worthy

For Bollywood, it hasn’t been a fantastic year.

Not that the movies lacked celebrities or spectacles. Big-budget thrillers with stars like Ranbir Kapoor in Shamshera or Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha failed to make money at the box office.

Whereas this was not the case with the Kashmir records. A divisive Hindi film, The Kashmir Files, which has been criticized for inciting Islamophobia, was by far the biggest hit this year; the film even performed well on digital platforms.

But who is to blame for Bollywood’s flops in 2022?

Every time a much-discussed film has performed poorly at the box office in recent months, the future of Hindi cinema has been criticized. All of these highly anticipated disasters had one thing in common: they were all headlined by male artists who had previously topped the box office. There have been allegations, meanwhile, that films with strong female leads also fare poorly.

During an interview with SheThePeople, Vidhya Balan said, “The pandemic has become an easy excuse for people to say that now women-led movies won’t work in theaters because basically our industry is going through a kind of stream where a lot of our movies are bombing, terribly. And those are your so-called male hero-led films. But who takes the hits are the films directed by women.

The way Vidhya presented her case made us believe her reasoning was right, and it made us wonder if female-centric films were being unfairly criticized.

In terms of ratios and returns, Balan’s “worst flops made more money” than some of this year’s biggest disasters are true. This is due to the fact that female-directed films have a distinct market as they are much cheaper.

But if we talk about Bollywood as a whole, not one or two, but several films that were to set records ended up becoming the biggest disaster of 2022. It looks like the ongoing #Boycott trend among audiences seems to be one of the contributing factors to the film’s failure. We don’t know if we support this trend because it takes a lot of work to produce a movie, and if you boycotted it because a star said something, the movie made everyone lose money , not just celebrities, because this trend is also hurting the rest of the crew.

The Rashtra Kavach Om does a disservice not only to the genre it claims to belong to, but also to viewers who would like to see Aditya Roy Kapur on the big screen accomplish something meaningful instead of just landing a punch and having the effect be felt in slow motion. After a secret mission, a para commando finds himself with amnesia, unresolved questions and the responsibility to defend his country against terrorists. Even though his next movie Raksha Bandhan came out after Samrat Prithviraj, it seems like Akshay Kumar is having a bad year overall. When Prithviraj Chauhan decides to protect Mir Hossain from his brother, Muhammad Ghori, he paints a target on his back. The film’s plot follows a simple progression: early childhood, first battle, marriage, second battle, death, and Prithviraj’s legacy. Sanyogita, Prithviraj’s better half, was Manushi Chhillar’s first acting role. Alongside Akshay Kumar, Sonu Sood also made an appearance in the film, although Sonu, who has only recently been hailed as a superhero for his charitable efforts, still plays a similar supporting role as he played in Jodhaa Akbar.

It seems the reason it failed so horribly was because it was the big-budget VFX movie that was so eagerly awaited.

Shameshera, the movie starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vaani Kapoor, bombed at the box office and even on OTT. Such a case where something went horribly wrong. The visual effects of the historical drama film Shamshera are so terrible that online users openly blame them for the film’s disappointing box office performance. The cast was busy enjoying and celebrating their film when the internet quickly flagged a huge mistake in the script, which instead left fans laughing at the making. In the final scene, as Ranbir and Sanjay Dutt are engaged in combat, Vaani Kapoor can be seen protecting her “baby” and taking part in the fight scene with a sword.

The story is about a slave in the city of Kaza who fights valiantly against a brutal general to free his tribe of warriors imprisoned by deception.
